Couples in Crisis

One or two ‘first aid’ sessions can make a difference

In the current COVID -19 crisis, couples and families are isolated together, often when there were already underlying relationship difficulties

Don’t despair

There are things we can do to help.

Sometimes an emergency ‘first aid’ session or two can help.

This is different to ongoing therapy but can provide the ‘first aid’ needed to manage tensions. It can also be a foundation for regular couple/family or individual therapy at a later date.

Fresh eyes

When I used to manage a clinical team in the NHS, I would depend on the questions of new staff members to give me a fresh perspective.

In the same way I can ask questions which broaden a narrative and allow different perspectives.

Fresh eyes can be so helpful in intervening and questioning things that don’t work any more or unhelpful or entrenched positions. Offering a different perspective and a space to talk can help to contain an escalating situation.

Using a positive, solution-focused framework, short term therapy (one to two one or two sessions) really can make a difference.

Families in isolation, together

Many couples I see are stuck negative patterns of commmunication, literally stuck with escalating feelings of not being heard or understood.

If you’d like an online session about breaking negative patterns or an assessment session please let me know. I am currently working via zoom and have flexibility to offer sessions at varying times. Sessions are available to fit in with your needs.
