Working with Children and Adolescent Mental Health
I offer help to families in Lewes and Brighton whose children and adolescents might need support with any form of emotional distress
Parents can find themselves struggling with finding the right help for their children. There are often long waiting lists at CAMHS .
I have experience of working with children and adolescent mental health issues and am happy to offer an assessment appointment before beginning any therapy. Following on from this I will advise what kind of help might be needed.
Further help might include a referral to CAMHS for a multi disciplinary approach, (this will depend on severity and risk) or to another specialist.
My teenager has become isolated staying in her bedroom and looking as if she has been crying. She won't talk. What can I do?
This is not a reflection of your parenting, this age group move between dependence and independence and rely increasingly on friends so this is normal.
Keep communication open and available. You know your child best and if you feel this is not a fleeting problem within the normal range, talk to others and see if they have concerns, and if you are worried seek some help.
My son is showing signs of anxiety, not wanting to go to school when he was previously happy and achieving. He is becoming socially isolated from friends. I am at a loss.
Anxiety can quickly escalate but is also easily treated, I advise that you get some support, I'd be happy to discuss this with you .
I can help with the following:
- Self harm
- Depression and mood swings
- Difficulties in relationships
- Eating disorders
- Sibling problems
- Loss and bereavement
